Summary

I absolutely hated this。 I’m so sick of toxic BDSM relationships being thresholds for spice books。 I’m super pumped it was consent based, however their relationship starts out as a lie and that kind of front is the antithesis of healthy BDSM。 anyway。 If you enjoyed 50 shades you’ll like this。 It’s 50 shades, Olympus edition。 There’s some good Spicy scenes that are kink centric。 I enjoyed the actual plot of touch of darkness more。 The audiobook narrators were great。

I loved the first fifteen chapters quite a bit - the setting, most of the characters (especially Hades and Hermes) - but at some point it felt like the story turned into a PWP fanfic with the barest thread of the plot holding it together。 Which isn’t what I expected or really wanted out of this story。Besides that, I really don’t like the trope of “she just wants to leave this place behind。” I liked a lot of things about Persephone’s character, but I’m so over seeing that in romances。 Especially I loved the first fifteen chapters quite a bit - the setting, most of the characters (especially Hades and Hermes) - but at some point it felt like the story turned into a PWP fanfic with the barest thread of the plot holding it together。 Which isn’t what I expected or really wanted out of this story。Besides that, I really don’t like the trope of “she just wants to leave this place behind。” I liked a lot of things about Persephone’s character, but I’m so over seeing that in romances。 Especially where it’s like, literally nothing is stopping you from staying, girl。 Just stay if you want to stay。 It feels like such a non-conflict to me, like there aren’t actually any real stakes here。Finally, I seriously hated every moment of the “resolution”。 It truly ruined the story and Hades’ character。I guess this one just wasn’t for me。 I had hopes for the next one though, but after that conclusion, I’m just not sure… 🤣 。。。more

DNF at 65% - smut was good, but overall could not get into this book。 I found it dragged and the events or lack of events in between the smut was forgettable and blah。 Kept going back thinking I would get into, but continually felt disappointed after each chapter。 Not for me!

Ultra- modern Olympus where "The Thirteen" rule the city。 You know, Zues, Demeter, Aphrodite, Poseiden。。。 Hades (theoretically) is a myth。 The children of the Thirteen get used as pawns in their parent's power games and in this case Demeter tries to marry off her daughter Persephone to Zeus without even asking her。 Oh, and Zeus killed the last two Heras so。。。 that's not great。 Persephone flees and ends up at the River Styx and in an act of desperation makes it past the barrier and over to the Lo Ultra- modern Olympus where "The Thirteen" rule the city。 You know, Zues, Demeter, Aphrodite, Poseiden。。。 Hades (theoretically) is a myth。 The children of the Thirteen get used as pawns in their parent's power games and in this case Demeter tries to marry off her daughter Persephone to Zeus without even asking her。 Oh, and Zeus killed the last two Heras so。。。 that's not great。 Persephone flees and ends up at the River Styx and in an act of desperation makes it past the barrier and over to the Lower City and guess what- Hades is not a myth。 There he is ruling over the lower city, taking care of people, not being a monster at all。 Persephone and Hades team up to get back at Zeus, because Zeus killed Hades' parents years ago。 This is a romance, and it is Katee Robert so there is lots of on page sex, and a sex dungeon。 It is a consensual sex dungeon but he IS Hades。 I enjoyed the modern Olympus- I am always up for a Greek Myth retelling, probably due to my Waldorf school upbringing。 It is written with TWO first person points of view which was a bit confusing but apparently the thing in many contemporary romances。 Also I think I have discovered what an "Alpha Male" in romance is。 My friend tells me that this is Alpha Male Lite, in which case I am not sure I want to find Alpha Male For Real。 Put me down dude, I can walk。 。。。more

I had no idea Neon Gods would be this bad! There are quite many things that threw me off in this book。 But lets take it from the beginning。 The first two or three chapters were fine, they were interesting。 Although what does going into an american university have to do with Olympus? The world building was fine but that part wasnt for me。 Then we have Persephone who crossed the River Styx, met Hades and they instantly fell in love。 Where is the tension, the slow burn!!?? Persephone was fine as a character, sometimes。。。, but Hades was not at all。 He was so overprotective, which tired me, and weird。 Their relationship had nothing exciting but it was cute a few times。 The scenes, especially the public ones were horrible。 The calling him Sir, the begging, the constant use of the 😺 word in the worst ways, I was in loss of words。 Who finds that hot!? Hermes and Dionysus though slayed。 They were funny and such a nice duo。 The sisterhood was cute too。 The last chapters, the ones that had basically the other half of plot, -the other was in the beginning-, were kinda nice。 Got a little sad that it ended but the last chapter obliterated that。。。 Why, just why!? 。。。more

The book it self remind me (the part of public sex) something like 50 shads of grey but not totally, the fact of Hades asking Persephone to say “sir”… 。 For me this, gave me total vibe of 50 shad’s of grey•_• If to watch this from the point of view of the plot… Idk, b Don’t know if it’s a spoiler but i have a GREAT advice for those who wants to read this book。 Read this book if you are really horny and don’t have relationship。 Like people, read this ONLY IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT TO READ!!! 3。5I liked the world building, or at least the idea of it the most on this book。 I wasn't really a fan of some of the naming on the book, and felt a bit taken out by some。。。 I think that's one of my biggest issues with this book overall。 Hades and Persephone are nice protagonist on this adaptation, I feel they could have been done better, but that's nitpicking at this point。 3。5I liked the world building, or at least the idea of it the most on this book。 I wasn't really a fan of some of the naming on the book, and felt a bit taken out by some。。。 I think that's one of my biggest issues with this book overall。 Hades and Persephone are nice protagonist on this adaptation, I feel they could have been done better, but that's nitpicking at this point。 。。。more

Nah, no thanks, not working for me -- if it did work for you, yay!)。 He's not as "bad ass" as we keep getting told。 I'm surprised he has a play room。。。 wait, no, no I'm not that fits。 I just。。。 cmon dude, he could have been such a strong character! But he's like。。。 a mob boss who has a thing for feet, ankles, and it seems like Princess Lea (uh。。。 crickets)。 As for the rest of the characters in this world。。。 We start with Persephone who, and I'm not even kidding。。。 is the daughter of a goddess, knows plenty of myths who exist, but also somehow is surprised that Hades really exists? Huh? What? And from then on it was just downhill, and that was early on。 There are no plans。 Just actions。 It kind of fits this "instant love" story that gets set up but bleh。 No world building at all。 No deep character creation。 Just a lot of nonsense and then sex scenes smacked in there。 World building is just nonexistent。 I cannot tell if we are on Earth, somewhere else, who the hell knows。 Why does Persephone want to go to college, and why Berkeley specifically (no, really, someone needs to better explain this choice -- it reads like someone said pick a prestigious institution and this just got plopped in)? The gods are super cool and 'rule' but they also have mafia like side hustles, social media, have seen (and I guess, like?) Star Wars and。。。 where/when are we? How does this all work。。。 no one knows。 The world building is over before it begins。 Now, sex scenes。 That's what I was partially here for (I know what Katee does, and normally she does it really well)。 But in this one。。。 idk。 I was never really feeling it as much as the rest of the group。 Why was that? Idk, probably because Persephone is a watered down Anna and Hades is a watered down Grey and in the end I wanted something new。 The author had a shot at retelling this myth, and potentially doing it well。 But the myth isn't the focus here。 The dirty sex is。 And it wasn't enough to carry this book。 。。。more
